Basic Histocompatibility Course

The Basic Course is offered biennially and alternates with the Specialists Course.

Purpose:

The curriculum is designed to provide the technician/technologist with a well rounded background in basic transplant immunology and related laboratory skills and provides the transplant fellow with basic immunology.

 

Objective:

By the end of the course, the successful student will meet the needs of the beginning HLA technician/technologist by providing pertinent information about HLA testing, methodologies, and information necessary to meet the ASHI Statement of Competency.

 

Syllabus:

Each student will receive a comprehensive course syllabus containing:

  • Lecture summaries
  • Lecture outlines
  • References and bibliography

 

Applicant Requirements:

Minimum of three months experience in an HLA Laboratory. B.S. degree in an appropriate biological science or MT(ASCP) or other appropriate registry.

General Information

Anticipated in-person for 2025 and 2027.

When the course is held in-person, the registration fee includes continental breakfast, breaks and lunch daily as well as a welcome reception. Hotel, transportation, and other arrangements/costs are the student's responsibility.

Anticipated virtually in 2024 and 2026.

When the course is held virtually, registration fee includes On-Demand access to lecture videos for 6 months and two live virtual office hours with faculty.

The official language for the course is English.

The course is ABHI certified.
